NEO-RENAISSANCE PIERCED 800 SILVER PEDESTAL TAZZA, HANAU, LATE 19th CENTURY
.800 Silver; 783 g
An exceptional example of German Historicism, this large pedestal fruit bowl embodies the virtuosity of Hanau silver production during the late 19th century. The wide, shallow bowl features masterfully executed reticulated silverwork, composed of intricate floral foliate scrolls interspersed with delicate avian motifs. At its heart lies a superb high-relief repoussé medallion depicting a pastoral scene with four winged putti, a quintessential Neo-Renaissance trope. The piece is supported by a flared hexagonal pedestal base, meticulously pierced to mirror the bowl’s ornate decoration. This tazza reflects the era’s fascination with 17th-century aesthetics, combining technical precision with romanticized, fairytale-inspired artistry.
