This finely executed bronze figure represents the celebrated "Narcissus of Pompeii," a Roman masterpiece discovered in 1862 and later re-identified by scholars as the youthful Dionysus. Cast by the renowned Giorgio Sommer foundry in Naples, the sculpture captures the Neoclassical elegance of the Grand Tour era. It features the characteristic "excavated" dark patina favored by 19th-century collectors to emulate the oxidised surfaces of authentic Roman antiquities.
The base bears the foundry’s signature and "Calata Trinità" address, affirming its provenance as a high-quality reduction intended for the sophisticated European market.
