A large Satsuma vase with a flared neck and oval body. The gilding is particularly heavy and covers much of the surface, including the temple rooftops, warrior armour, borders and neck decoration, which is a strong indicator of quality in Meiji Satsuma ware. Two main panels show samurai warriors and court figures set against landscapes with pine trees and temples. The remaining two panels, placed opposite each other, are painted with pink peonies on a cream ground. The combination of rich gilding and detailed painting across the neck, base, and figural paintings places this vase among the better examples of Meiji export production.
