LATE VICTORIAN PATINATED BRONZE FIGURE, AFTER FREDERICK SCLIPF, GERMAN, c. 1898
Patinated Bronze on a Verde Antico marble plinth;
This late 19th-century patinated figurative sculpture captures a slender, athletic female nude in a dynamic, rhythmic pose. Shown standing on tip-toe upon a circular integral base, the figure extends her arms in an expressive, theatrical gesture characteristic of the Art Nouveau period’s fascination with eurhythmics. While unsigned, the model is definitively identified as Schlipf’s celebrated Aulosspielerin (Aulos Player), first conceived in 1898. The casting features a rich, deep chocolate-brown "medalic" finish and remains mounted upon its original, stepped rectangular plinth of Verde Antico marble.
Note: The figure lacks its twin musical instruments; however, the original flathead mounting screw remains intact within the left hand, offering a clear path for future restoration.
