An elegant Late Victorian silver-mounted sucrier, this piece serves as a sophisticated example of the Neoclassical revival that swept through high-end European decorative arts in the late 19th century. The vessel features a bowl of frosted glass, meticulously etched with a Greek Key border that is mirrored in the crisp engraving of the domed silver cover and stepped base. The lid is crowned by a finely cast naturalistic finial, while the body is supported by two scrolled, foliate-capped handles. Resting upon four ornate bracket feet, the piece achieves a harmonious balance between the substantial silver mounts and the delicate transparency of the glass, characteristic of the refined dining appointments of the period.
