A fine pair of late Victorian sterling silver candlesticks, hallmarked for Sheffield, 1896, bearing the maker's mark of the esteemed firm James Dixon & Sons Ltd. Each stick is designed in the Neoclassical taste as a fluted Corinthian column, rising from a stepped square base decorated with elegant swags, ribbons, and beaded borders. The capitals are intricately cast with acanthus leaves beneath detachable beaded nozzles. These impressive examples reflect the 19th-century fascination with architectural antiquity, combining substantial weight with the refined craftsmanship characteristic of one of Sheffield’s premier silversmiths.
