EDWARDIAN PIERCED STERLING SILVER SHELL-FORM CENTERPIECE, SHEFFIELD, 1903
Sterling Silver; 306 g
An Edwardian sterling silver centerpiece, hallmarked for Sheffield, 1903, bearing the maker’s mark of Henry Atkin. The vessel is designed in the form of a stylized scallop shell, featuring a deeply fluted body with alternating plain and decoratively pierced panels. The intricate openwork consists of repeating geometric and foliate apertures beneath a scalloped, wire-work rim. The handle is cast with rococo-style C-scrolls and floral sprigs, enclosing a central reserve. The piece is supported by three cast ball feet. Originally intended for service of fruit or dry confectionery, this specimen represents the high-quality hollowware production of the Atkin Brothers’ Truro Works during the early 20th century.
