FRENCH GILT-BRONZE CHINOISERIE MANTEL CLOCK, PARIS, c.1880
Gilt Bronze;
A fine French mantel clock in a golden bronze case with an architectural form, topped by a decorative finial and arched pediment. The pediment and clock face both feature hand-painted porcelain panels in the Chinese style - the dial centred with a seated figure holding fans, surrounded by blossom and a lakeside scene. Roman numerals sit within gilt cartouche surrounds. The clock rests on scrolled feet with an ornate apron below.
The movement by Brocot & Cie, Paris, features the firm's celebrated Brocot suspension system - visible above the XII and marked "S 8 F" indicating the suspension spring specification - allowing regulation of the timekeeping without opening the case. Currently not running.
