This substantial Victorian parcel-gilt bronze fireplace fender features a masterful naturalistic design characteristic of the late nineteenth-century rustic revival. The patinated base, detailed with pierced architectural elements, anchors an undulating grapevine motif that climbs tall, branch-form finials. Striking parcel-gilt highlights meticulously articulate heavy clusters of grapes and exquisitely detailed snails resting upon the textured foliage. The dramatic juxtaposition of the dark, muted patina against the bright gilding showcases a sophisticated execution of restrained opulence, presenting an exceptional piece for a discerning collector of decorative arts.
