A TRIPLE-SUITE OF CUT-GLASS DECANTERS AND CLARET JUG, WEST EUROPE, 19th CENTURY
Crystal; 3 kg
An exceptional and rare three-piece suite of late 19th-century cut glass, comprising a pair of slender decanters (for wines or spirits) and a central claret jug (for wine), each retaining its original, finely matched stopper. The set is distinguished by a sophisticated decorative program featuring a primary band of diamond-cut cartouches, bordered by elongated vertical cuts that taper elegantly toward a star-cut pedestal base. The central jug is further elevated by a notched, scroll-form handle and a faceted pouring spout. Characterized by high lead content and remarkable clarity, this ensemble represents the height of Victorian-era banquet service, showcasing a mastery of refractive geometry and classical proportion typical of premier European glasshouses.
