Each of shaped-circular form with a cast border of shells, flowerheads and C-scrolls, raised on three pierced scroll feet cast with foliage. The flat field is finely engraved with Rococo-revival foliate scrolls and flowers surrounding a central crest.
The design looks back to the celebrated London salvers of the 1740s and 1750s, reinterpreted with the richer cast ornament and exuberant engraving favoured by Victorian silversmiths. Pairs of this kind were made for card and letter service in the hall, or for serving at table, and their survival together is desirable.
