This pair of French late 19th-century candelabra is executed in the Neo-Grec style, featuring six lights issuing from scrolling foliate branches. Each candelabrum is supported by a central gilt bronze figure of a Classical maiden emblematic of the arts, standing against a black slate pilaster. One figure holds a scroll inscribed with titles referencing comedies by Moliere, including Le Malade Imaginaire, L'Avare, Le Misanthrope, and Tartuffe. The figures are mounted upon shaped black slate bases decorated with gilt bronze caryatids at the corners and raised on four scrolling gilt bronze paw feet.
