This exceptional pair of Louis XVI style gilt-bronze chenets exemplifies the sophisticated asymmetry characteristic of late nineteenth-century French metalwork. Each piece features a finely chased, draped putto playing a musical instrument, comfortably seated upon a dynamically shaped base. The robust foundational casting incorporates scrolling acanthus leaves, classical coin-motif banding, and intricate floral festoons. Anchoring the composition is a prominent fluted pedestal, elegantly surmounted by a classical flaming urn. The exceptionally high quality of the chasing and the brilliant, even gilding strongly indicate the masterful craftsmanship of a premier Parisian bronzier.
