A LATE 19th CENTURY NEOCLASSICAL PATINATED BRONZE FIGURE OF HEBE, FRANCE, C. 1880
Patinated Bronze;
This finely cast patinated bronze figure depicts Hebe, the Greek goddess of youth and cupbearer to the gods. Rendered in a sophisticated Neoclassical style, the figure is shown in a gracefully contrapposto stance, clad in a diaphanous, high-waisted chiton that displays masterful fluidity in the drapery. She holds a classical lekythos (vase) under her right arm, embellished with etched figurative motifs, while her left arm is raised aloft; though the original kylix or cup is now absent, the silhouette remains commanding. The bronze exhibits a rich, dark chocolate patina with subtle highlights, mounted upon a turned wooden plinth that underscores its elegant, nineteenth-century proportions and academic refinement.
