A large tureen in the Regency taste. The oval body is on four scrolled feet and has a heavy gadrooned rim and twin scrolled loop handles. It is engraved on each side with the armorials of the Scottish family of Grant. The ogee-domed cover is engraved with the family crest and rises to a cast pomegranate finial.
Marks: Formerly attributed to Paul Storr, London 1802. The earlier marks were later cancelled by the Goldsmiths' Company Assay Office.
Heraldry: Arms of Grant, with the crest recorded for William Grant (1701–1764), Lord Prestongrange, Lord of Session, and presumably used by a descendant.
