Panels of samurai and court ladies in landscapes, painted in coloured enamels and thick gold, alternate with blue panels of gold chrysanthemums and leaves. Each saucer has a central blue roundel with a gold crest. The borders are gold key-fret, and the lids have gold knobs. Signed on the base in a gold-on-black panel with the Shimazu crest and \u003cem\u003eGyokushū ga\u003c\/em\u003e.
